Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+4) responded well in the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, held at the Leopard Creek Country Club (Malelane, South Africa), with a solid card of 70 shots, seeing as how this Friday, there were not an abundance of cards under par (among other reasons, the suffocating heat on this side of the globe, with temperatures above 40 degrees celsius, which doesn’t help at all).
A clear improvement in his game from tee to green, mostly on the tee shots, which were the main component in the Spanish golfer’s comeback, who managed to shoot up 40 spots in the rankings by the end of the round, although his valiant effort was insufficient in making the cut. The 78 from the first round was too heavy of a burden to bear in the end.
A double bogey on the 18th sealed his fate as to whether or not he would make it through to the weekend, although the golfer from Madrid finished the round on the 9th hole with an excellent partial score of three under par in the final third of the round.
