Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will start his final exam this Thursday in the season finale. The golfer from Madrid will play in the Portugal Masters, the last shot of the year in the European Tour, final opportunity to maintain the complete rights to play next year.
Gonzalo will play at the Don Pedro Hotel GC in Vilamoura, with the peace of mind of knowing that no matter what happens, even not making the cut, he’ll be in the category that will allow him to play in a good amount of tournaments next year, around twenty.
That being said, he’s so close to his goal of maintaining the complete rights, and thus being able to organize his schedule to pick and choose which tournaments he wants to play. The Spanish golfer could get by with an eleventh place to make it to the top 117, those who will maintain the card.
Gonzalo sealed the deal last year in the last tournament of the year, the Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters in Valderrama, so it’s not his first rodeo. He made the last two cuts in Italy and France, and the goal is go all in and to battle it out to the bitter end.
This Thursday, he’ll play at 9:50 am (CET), with Oliver Fisher, who shot an astounding 59 on this course last year, and Lee Slattery.
