Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño needed another outstanding round in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in order to make the cut, and the truth is that he came dangerously close. A tremendous display of courage and effort on his part on the Kingsbarns course.
Gonzalo shot a magnificent 66 on the Scottish course, with six birdies and just one bogey, and finished just two shots away from the passing grade, the cut. The good conditions that took hold of the St. Andrews and Carnoustie courses throughout the first three days allowed for very low scores, which is why the final cut went down to a spectacular nine under par.
Despite having been left with a bit of a bad taste in his mouth, as he did not get to play in the final round, Gonzalo left with the good vibes in tact and his head held high after this last round of golf. Without a doubt, a great push forward before the Open de España, held next week at the Club de Campo Villa in Madrid. In other words, at home.
