Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño is back to ‘school’ after a five-week break, because of the way the European Tour calendar is structured. The golfer from Madrid is back in action with his best foot forward. He had a good first round of 70 shots in the D+D Real Czech Challenge, and he’s now positioned in the upper-middle section of the rankings.
The putter was on point in a day in which his long game was a bit more erratic than in the weeks prior to the long break. In both putts per regulation green as well as total putts (26), he finished the round within the top ten of the tournament.
It’s a good start, but Gonzalo should continue to fight hard in the second round, seeing as how making the cut is not guaranteed, not by a long shot. There have been a lot of birdies at the Albatross Golf Resort, and it’s quite possible for the cut to be set at -3 or -4.
