Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-8) shot a 68 in the second round of the Scottish Open, going into the weekend with all options open.
He’s currently within the top 30 of the tournament and six shots away from the leaders (Wiesberger, Slattery and Van Rooyen), a still reasonably salvageable distance. But what’s more, he’s just three shots away from the three hall passes to the British Open up for grabs this week. And with 36 holes left to play, he’s also still got the possibility of reaching the top ten of the tournament, a result which would practically guarantee his goal of maintaining the European Tour card for 2020.
The Spanish golfer kept the good vibes rolling on the tee shots and, generally speaking, he didn’t let up in any aspect of the game, although it’s true that this week at the Scottish Renaissance Club, it takes a lot of birdies to make it to the top of the rankings, and he still hasn’t quite managed to finish with that perfect round.
Fernández Castaño will play in the third round starting at 12:30 pm local time (1:30 pm CEST) with Scottish golfer, Scott Jamieson.
