It's no easy task to make a positive analysis out of a round in which you made a double bogey and a triple bogey. However, there are days like today when it's worth it to make the effort. Two major slip-ups on the 10th and on the 14th tainted a good round of golf by Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño at Sawgrass.
Yes, the errors were so significant that they threatened to take over right off the bat. On the 10th, he got caught in the sand traps and on the 14th, the ball went straight to the water. But of course, in a round of 72 shots, this didn't account for even five percent of the work. That's why it's worth it to search for the light at the end of tunnel.
On the 16 remaining holes, Gonzalo landed a tremendous five under par, a result that, on its own, would have placed him at a spot in the top ten. The Spanish golfer's capacity for landing a birdie is undeniable, all he needs to do is mend those dark patches that come out from time to time to consistently repeat rounds like this past Thursday.
On top of that, today he was more than alright from tee to green. In fact, it was the day in which he was able to catch the most greens, and didn't get caught up in too many problems except for those mentioned above. Being how things are, it would be no surprise if he walked away from the PGA Tour headquarters with a score under par.
Gonzalo will play the last round tomorrow at THE PLAYERS Championship along with J.J. Henry, with the goal of moving up from where he currently stands at 52nd place.
